Required Supplies
Do you have all your supplies? Use this checklist to be sure you're not missing anything you'll need!
-
Watercolor Paper You will need watercolor paper - although 140 lb Coldpress paper is standard and would work best, any quality paper is fine. Mixed Media paper is also good for watercolor painting when using stamps.
-
Watercolor Brushes You'll want a combination of brushes, including a flat brush (1/2" or 3/4") and two round brushes (2/4 and 8/10). You'll also need a waterbrush. Any quality or brand of brushes will work fine - just use what you have on hand! Lesson 1 may help you pick your preference.
-
Watercolor Paints Again, you can pick the type you prefer for this class. I use a combination of different types including Neocolor crayons, Distress Inks, Kuretake Clean Color Markers, Gansai Tambi pad watercolors, and Windsor Newton and Daniel Smith tube watercolors. Start with a basic pan set if you want until you see how each type works!
-
Stamps and Stamping Supplies You'll want flat and outline stamps, Versamark Ink, clear or white embossing powder, and black waterproof ink (like Archival). Try to use stamps you already have on hand!
-
Flat Board and Artist Tape You will need to attach your watercolor paper to a board so you can move it around to mix colors. You'll also need to stretch it with artist or painter's tape so it doesn't warp.
-
Water and Paper Towels Water in jars, water in spray bottles - water will be a necessity! You'll also need either napkins or paper towels.
-
Determination and Drive Learning to watercolor is a big feat, and this class offers a lot of ideas and techniques to try this medium out - so be prepared to learn and to practice! Come with determination and drive to really utilize the lessons and assignments, and you will be well on your way to becoming a watercolor artist - or at least an enthusiast! But we can all call ourselves artists when we're holding a paintbrush ;)
